    Critical analysis: “The Virgin”, by SapphoCarrying a child is the greatest responsibility that can happen in life. Giving time and protecting the child is a major element. But the most important thing is that they don't feel alone and forgotten. As a parent, that’s their job, to welcome them and never forget them. In the fragment titled “The Virgin,” Sappho uses vivid imagery to show how an apple tree has a relationship similar to that of a mother and child. How the tree would be the mother and the child the apple. Like a mother and child, it is the tree's responsibility to hold on to the apple and make sure it is taken care of, no matter what. Sappho immediately uses imagery when she uses the words “Like a sweet apple that ripens.” in line 1. This means that since the apple ripens, it then grows like a child does. How, in early life, it undergoes changes in its appearance and size and grows into what it is today, and becomes more mature over time. They become a delicious blessing when they come into the world and grow....
