Many counties yearn for essential, clean, vital infrastructure nutrients that we in the United States and many other developed countries take for granted. Africa is the country with the greatest need for drinking water, since it alone uses three hundred and forty-five million. Asia is not far behind, with two hundred million people in need of water. These statistics amount to an even more alarming statistic. 3.4 million people die every year from contaminated water. This is more than the number of people who die each year due to war. A promising solution to this problem is the development of water from air machines. Systems powered by wind turbines would be the most feasible, but the average price range for these systems is $500,000 to $760,000 according to CNN.com This makes these types of air-water systems impractical to implement and maintain in a vast rural area stricken by poverty. The cost would be astronomical, as would drilling fifteen hundred feet for groundwater wells with expensive pipe infrastructure and an inability to maintain such a structure due to cultural differences. Arturo Vittori, an Italian architect, who worked on the design of subways, airplanes and ships. in Europe has designed a solution to the unsafe water epidemic with Africa in mind, and specifically Ethiopia.
