  • Essay / What Is Religious Freedom Essay - 1110

In today's world, religious freedom has become a major issue. Religion has a great influence on much of the violence that occurs every day. Religious discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of an individual because of their beliefs. Statistics have shown an increase in religious hostilities in every other major world religion except the Americas. The price of religious freedom seems to be getting harder and harder. Will we renounce our religions or take advantage of these circumstances and build our own religious armies against the enemies of the world? We started hearing about this issue in the Middle East. The group widely known as Isis persecutes not only Christians, but many other religions as well. Isis has committed many heinous crimes around the world. From beheadings to killing children, kidnapping women and selling them into slavery, to manufacturing their own chemical weapons, ISIS's actions are chilling. It seems that Isis targets Christians the most. There have been many reports about the man who controlled the outcome of this disregard for Christians. A girl who was in one of the classes the attacker entered said he entered and told everyone in the room to stand up. He then asked them what their religion was. If they were anything other than a Christian, they were shot in one part of the body. She remembers him telling her, "Well, because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just a second." He then shot them in the head. After being shot, she acted as if she was dead. In my opinion, the courage of this person is astonishing. From enduring the pain of being shot to having to lie there while her classmates suffered around her or lay dead, it still completely amazes me and that's not something something I think a lot of people couldn't do.
