  • Essay / Law Abid Citizen Reflection - 728

The roles can be seen with Clyde Shelton's wife, Nick Rice's (Shelton's lawyer) wife, and Sarah Lowell. Along with Clyde Shelton's wife at the beginning of the film, she is extremely easily dominated by Darby and appears completely helpless. In the real world, a woman might have had more defense or might have made a smarter choice than just running towards the man. For Nick Rice's wife, a "fairy tale code" shines through in their relationship. Nick is a kind and ideal man and she is a helpless woman because he is the one who puts food on the table. Additionally, they show her having poor grades before her daughter was born, suggesting that women are inferior to men. Sarah Lowell is provocatively placed at a lower level in the law firm. She is seen doing large amounts of research but is still never promoted to a higher position. Nick Rice still seems to care for her by giving her the opportunity to appear in court and making sure she is okay after the inmate's death scene. The only exception to these roles is the female judge who answers the exploding cell phone. Most of the women seen in this film appear to be inferior to most of the men.
