New Jersey Faces Problems With Its WasteBy: Johanna DovaleEvery day, citizens produce large amounts of waste. Unfortunately, almost no one knows his destination and never wonders what is happening to him. They believe that as soon as the garbage truck picks up their waste, it disappears. The reality is that there is a whole process behind every trash can. In New Jersey, the population has increased sharply; This causes landfills to overfill, leading to a lack of space in landfills and an increase in toxic fumes. Where does all of New Jersey's trash go? As the population increases, the amount of waste increases. Unfortunately, schools, homes, industries, etc. all contribute to producing more waste. If people were aware of the negative effects that increased waste is causing in New Jersey, they would try to reduce the amount of waste their household produces. The problem is that landfills that previously stored waste in New Jersey are overloaded. So here is the question that citizens should ask themselves: where does my waste go? As New Jersey can no longer afford to put more waste in its landfills, it is transported to other states. Although "some landfills still operate... their function has been replaced by waste transfer stations for typical household and commercial waste, as well as... recycling centers, which recycle a wide variety of materials, from cardboard and from paper to bottles and cans to dead leaves" (Geberer, para. 6). Since this happened, New Jersey sends "more than half of its waste [to other places]" (Gold, 1990, para. 7).New Jersey waste is exported to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, South Carolina and India... middle of paper... after shopping, two or many of these things weren't necessary It's something that happens to everyone It's not that you were actually looking for that specific thing, but maybe you liked the way it looked in the store or that. its price was "very low." Here are other ways to reduce waste: "Reduce excess paper at homeReduce packaging wasteEliminate mercury from the homePrevent food waste and composting organic materialsUse products from safest cleaningReduce the need for pesticides in your homeFinding a new life for old furniture, appliances and clothes"Here are some tips that everyone should start putting into practice at home. They are neither difficult nor impossible to achieve; it will just take some getting used to. Everyone should take action to improve New Jersey and the world. As the picture says, if you don't do it, who will.?
