    Okonkwo and some of the tribesmen were about to drink wine before taking care of business. They all had a drink but before starting, their wives were called to drink the wine. When Nwakibie’s wife entered, “she was wearing the anklet bearing her husband’s titles, which only the first wife could wear. She approached her husband and accepted the horn from him…” (Achebe 15). If women had no value, then the men could have started the ceremony without the wives entering. Instead, women were called out, showing the value of them drinking wine before starting their business. The fact that Nwakibie's wife bears her husband's titles shows how important she is to her husband and how valuable she is. Women are also important in the Umuofia tribe when it comes to marriage. When Obrierika's daughter had her Uri, "everyone had been invited...but it was very much a women's ceremony and the central characters were the bride and her mother" (Achebe 84). The bride and her mother were the “central figures” of the ceremony because the bride is cherished and appreciated by everyone.
