Community is a broad term, but it would be better described as a "feeling of camaraderie with others, resulting from sharing common attitudes, interests and goals." The LGBT community brings together lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their supporters, with the aim of celebrating individuality, sexuality and diversity. Additionally, the LGBT community actively fights for equal rights and calls for an end to discrimination based on sexual orientation. The LGBT community is made up of people of all races, socio-economic, religious and non-religious backgrounds, and all ages. The LGBT community supports all three assumptions and also questions assumptions two and three. Although the LGBT community accepts different types, according to Catherine Latterell, author of Remix, Assumption 1 is that communities provide stability. It is evident that the LGBT community undoubtedly supports this statement. Organizations like the Trevor Project and GLAAD work to “amplify the voices of the LGBT community by empowering real people to share their stories.” (GLAAD) According to the Trevor Project, lesbian, gay, and bisexual youth are 4 times more likely, and questioning youth are 3 times more likely, to attempt suicide as their heterosexual peers. The Suicide Prevention Resource Center estimates that between 30 and 40 percent of LGBT youth have attempted suicide. The organizations mentioned, among many others, provide a safe place for members of the LGBT community to safely express themselves and find support and assistance. The LGBT community as a whole is a place where its members can come together to celebrate each other. The LGBT community supports and disputes this assumption. Although the LGBT community provides support and assistance to those who may need it, it does not contribute to any of the basic survival needs. The LGBT community itself does not provide food, water, shelter, etc. However, the LGBT community provides a safe place to express yourself and find help in times of crisis, which many LGBT people would describe as a necessity in their lives. Countless organizations are available with the goal of serving LGBT people who may be suffering physically, mentally, or emotionally. One of the many goals of the LGBT community is to celebrate individuality, diversity and sexuality. LGBT does meet these needs, as it provides a place for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people to apologize.
