Students would be guided through the activities either with their peers, in partners or in small groups depending on their individual needs. The special education teacher should take on the role of helping to plan the lesson for the class. She will take into consideration the IEPs of her special education students. She will plan accordingly to help adapt and modify information so that her students are successful. She can even help adapt the lesson to better meet the needs of her students. Sometimes the special educator may request assistance from their paraeducator with these tasks. Paraeducators need to have a clear understanding of how the class will run at any given time. It is important that they know how the lessons are organized and what role they will play in the learning process. You may even want to have a detailed schedule to follow to help children throughout their lives.
