    Isaiah 58:6-14 is a very powerful passage. The first version of the Bible I read it in was the King James Version. This version didn't really make much sense to me because of all the "you" and "you" and "yours". So I looked it up again in the New Revised Standard Version. It was much clearer when I searched this Bible. There are some similarities and differences from the different versions I have read. The two that stood out to me the most were the King James Version and the New Revised Standard Version. The differences were like day and night. Probably because those were the first two I read, and maybe because the King James Version, as I said earlier, has a lot of "19th century language", like "thou" and " to you.” This text can be paraphrased as follows: Times of prayer and fasting are mixed with anger and fighting. You can't be like that and expect me to listen to you and answer your prayers. I am not satisfied with this kind of fasting and prayer. The kind of fast that works for me is being righteous in what you do and say and letting go of your heavy burdens. Go make someone else’s day happy. Share what you have with people less well off than you. If you do this, My light will shine on you and you will quickly achieve healing. I will keep you from my glory. When you call me, I will answer. If you stop accusing people, then the darkness around you will become as clear as day. I will take care of your needs. I will give you food even if there is none. I will keep you well. You will be known as a builder, not someone who tears things down.
