Establishes policies and procedures to ensure compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), conference and university rules and regulations. Represents the university as the primary spokesperson for the intercollegiate athletics program; oversees public relations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, sports media and the general public; works with the Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations and the Director of Media Relations to develop and implement public relations policies and objectives. Accepts public speaking engagements to promulgate the philosophies and goals of the department. Coordinates and supervises men's basketball, golf, baseball and men's basketball. s tennis and women's tennis programs working directly with the head coach; oversees the administration of all other academic programs through the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations. Oversees all internal financial and administrative operations through the Director of Sports Affairs and Ticketing Operations; promulgates budget guidelines and approves the final proposal for each area; monitors compliance with established budget. Develops long-range plans to determine the need and feasibility of constructing or improving athletic facilities. Coordinates the scheduling of sporting events involving conference participation and revenue contracts. Negotiates and administers contracts concerning radio and television coverage (network and cable) of sporting events; serves as the primary public relations liaison for intercollegiate athletics. Represents the department at the conference and national levels; serves as an ex-officio member of the Athletics Advisory Committee; ensures that coaching and administrative staff actively support the department's and university's joint commitment to academic success, which includes helping each student-athlete make normal progress toward graduation and to obtain their diploma within five years; serves on university and other committees that involve intercollegiate athletics. Oversees the development of funds through the Executive Director for Athletic Advancement; can personally obtain donations or establish endowment funds by cultivating the interests of businesses, individuals, foundations or associations.
