I will write my article on the effects of the Haitian Revolution it has on Haiti today. The reason why I am writing my last article on this topic is because I believe that the Haitian Revolution was a blessing but also a curse. Haiti is today the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and its situation is not improving. I will talk about the factors that led to the fall of Haiti. Why Haiti, being the first free black nation, turns out to be the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. One of the main causes of the Haitian Revolution was social inequality in Haitian society. Slaves made up the vast majority of the population, who were oppressed daily in the most unprotected ways. They were also economically deprived in a system that produced great wealth. For this reason, the abolition of slavery and the social inequalities suffered by these slaves had to be corrected. Santo Domingo was about 90 percent slave, making this issue inevitable at the center of the revolution.
