Essay / A comparison of the concepts of morality and immorality
Even the most moral person in the world would have to do unjust things if he knew that he could never be caught, because he has the possibility of gaining something without repercussions. People in society would consider someone a fool if they knew that a person had the opportunity to do something beneficial for themselves without risking getting into trouble, and did not pursue it. People do not believe that acting morally benefits a person personally, but only the status of a moral person; When the opportunity presents itself, people choose to act immorally because they feel it takes them out of their current state. We do not seek true morality, but rather we attempt to be seen as a moral person, to acquire status in society, through unjust actions. This shows that people actually view morality not as an intrinsic good, but rather as an instrumental good, used to acquire more material goods and resources. People view the choice to act morally as a nuisance, not because it is their first choice of action. People will choose the action that benefits them rather than receiving no benefit, unless they feel that they may be caught or have to suffer injustice in the future, which would therefore put them in a worse situation in the long term.
