As Nicholas Carr said in his article “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” ", "The Internet is a machine designed for the efficient and automated collection and manipulation of information..." People want to find the answer to the question(s) they have and they want to find it as quickly as possible and then move on their daily life. They don't want to spend hours and hours reading and annotating, researching and properly digging into the specific information they're learning about. Additionally, when people read information online, they tend to skim the information rather than read it in depth, which goes to my argument that Google makes them lazy.
