In our Research Methods class for Florida International University, we conducted a study for the fall term. We selected one hundred and twenty students from our university to participate. Of the 120 students, 52% (n=62) were male and 45% (n=54) were female, as well as those who did not indicate their age (n=4). Study ages ranged from a minimum of 17 years to a maximum of 59 years with a mean of 24.98 years (SD=7.74). Statistics for our population were 43.3% Hispanic American (n=52), 25% Caucasian (n=30), 16.7% African American (n=20), 5 % Asian Americans (n=6), 1. 7% Native Americans (n=2) and 8% others (n=10). Get an Original Essay All potential participants are asked if they are willing to participate in a study for an FIU Research Methods course. They state that there is no risk if they participate and are willing to contribute to an investigation involving a neutral Facebook post. The students, after agreeing to help verbally, received one out of three questionnaires. Of the three questionnaires, there were three different conditions. The first condition is sexuality, the second is romantic and finally, we have an education condition. We started by asking students to make sure that they read the Facebook page very carefully and thoroughly since they will have to use their memory to answer certain questions. Throughout the page, they define themselves as funny and the center of attention as well as open-minded and laid back. The same page was used for all three questionnaires. What has changed are the advertisements that we put at the bottom of the page. This is where the conditions come in. Each page contained either sex ads, romance ads, or educational ads at the bottom of the About Me section. All the advertisements in the three questionnaires have the same size so as not to modify the state of each page. For the first questionnaire, all three advertisements were sexually expressive. The ads included are: An Ax ad featuring a shirtless man with body spray next to him. It incorporated a slogan that read "Click here for your Ax moment." The next advert promoted a woman drinking with a man while wearing a more sexual dress. The last advert was for a perfume with a shirtless man wrapping his arms around the woman. These ads were not part of Riley's Facebook page. We used the “Ad choice” icon to validate the ads. For the following priming condition, we used romance. Again, while using the same page for Riley about me, we changed the ads. The first advertisement included was of both a man and a woman enjoying a nice romantic dinner at a Sandal's Resort.
