Cholesterol is a fatty wax-like substance that is naturally produced in the body (NLM, 2013). People with high cholesterol may never even know they have this condition. But when they become aware of it, they need to make immediate changes by adhering to specific diets, exercising regularly and following prescribed treatment or alternative therapies. Incorporating more fruits and vegetables into the diet, and fewer fried and processed foods, should be one of the first steps taken after diagnosis. Exercising at least 3 days a week can be a fun and healthy way to lower blood cholesterol levels. And taking natural remedies such as flaxseed, soybean and grapeseed extracts can go a long way in lowering blood cholesterol levels.
