My report is about Tourette Disorder or Tourette Syndrome (TS). Tourette syndrome is defined as a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary actions and vocalizations and often compulsive utterances of obsenities, called tics. The disorder was first named in 1885 after a French neurologist, Dr. George Gilles da la Tourette. Tics fall into two types of classification called simple or complex. Simple tics only affect a limited number of muscle groups. They can include anything from blinking, shrugging, facial movements, and shaking the head or shoulders. A person may also have vocal tics, including repetitive sniffing, growling, or throat clearing. Complex tics are exactly how they are described, complex. these are distinct movement patterns involving a number of different muscle groups. An example of a complex tic is a facial gesture accompanied by a shrug. A serious form of this type of tic is when the person inflicts harm on themselves.
