    A topic that often seems to be on the minds of Brigham Young University students is marriage. We wanted to see if there is a difference of opinion between students in Utah and those outside of Utah on what the ideal age for marriage should be. We used an online Qualtrics survey to collect data from a variety of BYU students in different fields of study, including family life, European studies, engineering, exercise science, geography and religion. We had 259 participants. This included 82 men and 177 women, married and single. Our survey asked background questions, opinions about the ideal age for marriage, and ratings of “marriage readiness” characteristics. We analyzed the data using correlation coefficients. There is a very weak positive relationship between state of origin and opinion on the ideal age for marriage. We found that BYU students view financial independence and a college degree as important traits in preparing someone for marriage.IntroductionThe population we decided to study consisted of students from Brigham Young University, married and single, men and women. We used a convenience sample; however, we did our best to get responses from a variety of students. We surveyed students from Home Life, European Studies, Engineering, Exercise Science, Geography and Religion. We also surveyed three singles neighborhoods, including one for freshmen. There are several reasons why we wanted to conduct this study. First, students at Brigham Young University appear to be more focused on marriage and dating than students at other universities.
