  • Essay / The Role of Challenges in Identifying Purpose in Life

In Man's Search for Meaning, Frankl describes how deep challenges help us identify our purpose in life. What role do you see challenge playing in outdoor adventure education? How can we use challenging outdoor adventure experiences to facilitate people's discovery of their own personal goals and/or purpose in life? Say no to plagiarism. A challenge can take the form of something physical, mental or emotional. I think many people think that outdoor adventure focuses only on physical challenges like climbing, hiking, or kayaking, but the mental and emotional challenges are just as important as those tasks. How to climb without trusting your insurer? How to kayak without facing your fear of rapids? Or go hiking without digging a cat hole? The only way to overcome these anxieties is to face them, jump straight into the experience and accept it! Feel the fear and adrenaline, the excitement and freedom (and relief if it's a cathole). When you're faced with a challenge, especially one that pushes your limits, you sometimes behave differently. I don't know how to explain it... but sometimes there's a moment when you feel completely exhausted - like you can't take another step or like your arms are about to give out - but if you have the right mindset, you can draw the strength you need from a part of you that is not commonly used. It's like a little reserve of superhero power that hides inside you until you really need it (I like to think that this cache of awesomeness is stored in your heart!). This moment of greatness is when you are the bravest, strongest, fiercest and most confident. The more you use this “superhero power,” the more your body becomes comfortable with it and challenges will become easier to overcome because you know you can do it. In my past experience, challenges taught me to believe in myself. There were many times when I wasn't mentally prepared and ultimately gave up instead of continuing, and I always reflect on those moments and think, "I totally could have done that." But sometimes, when I'm feeling particularly good, I surprise myself and do some pretty fantastic things. For example, I was afraid of heights and rapids, and now I love both! I love to test myself and feel the excitement!Keep in mind: this is just a sample.Get a custom paper now from our expert writers.Get a custom essayBut all these exhilarating challenges will be almost useless to unless you can reflect and develop a new understanding of yourself. It is important to look back at what happened and analyze how you felt throughout the meeting, what objectives were achieved, what may have frustrated you and how to learn from this experience and apply in the future. During an event where a participant is challenged, leaders should be supportive, encouraging and understanding. I think communication would be very important in a time like this, to ask the person how they are feeling during the meeting and remind them of the benefits of the challenge, as well as that they are free to push themselves as far as they can. feels comfortable.
