Essay / As Mahatma Gandhi said: “Anger is the enemy of non-violence and pride is the monster that swallows it.” » On several occasions, in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, violence broke out. The Montagues or the Capulets never became the monster that destroys anger. Romeo, a Montague, and Juliet, a Capulet, are "star-crossed lovers" who often cause trouble in the city of Verona, Italy. Violence is rarely the solution, but it can sometimes be beneficial for the greatest number of people. Very few times in history has violence solved problems without causing others because of the grief it involves. First, Tybalt, Capulet's nephew, is angry with Romeo for going to the Capulet party. Tybalt tries to search for Romeo but he comes across Mercutio, Prince's relative and one of Romeo's best friends. The two start a fight which leads to Mercutio's death. Tybalt intimidated Mercutio by sneering, “What do you want from me? (III.1.75). This indicates that Tybalt kills Mercutio, which infuriated Romeo. Romeo's anger drives him to kill Tybalt. This suggests that if Tybalt only questioned Romeo or even if Romeo told Tybalt that they are now related, it could have ended differently. Second, Romeo never receives the message that Juliet is still alive. Balthazar, Romeo's servant, tells Romeo of Juliet's death and the two go to Juliet's tomb. Juliet's arranged husband, Paris, is there and suspects Romeo of having vandalized the tomb of his "loves". Paris commands: “Obey and go with me, for you must die.” » (V. iii. 57). In fact, this is the second time that the blood of House Escalus has been shed again. Prince is furious about this because his relative isn't killed because of a problem with the Capulets that Montague didn't want to solve... middle of paper ... a matter that doesn't include the violence. Tybalt being hot-headed and Romeo unable to keep his cool led to Tybalt's death and Romeo's exile, which later led to his mother's disappearance. Paris and Romeo argue over Juliet's grave and lead to a fight which leads to Paris' death. Even killing Osama bin Laden was only temporary, because shortly after, the Boston Marathon came along and it was not a humane thing to do. Non-violence is not always the best thing to do, but it is an essential test of peace. More violence cannot alleviate the pain of violence itself. Works Cited Shakespeare, William. Romeo and Juliet.
