Native Americans “had long-standing cultural and ethnic affinities that made them natural allies in times of war” (Ramsey, 102). Therefore, during the period of the Yamasee War, Native Americans were able to come together. Although the idea of bringing together all the tribes seemed to be very beneficial, the final coalition was not effective. One of the reasons this system was not effective is that there was a division between upper towns and lower towns. As Ramsey recounts, “the upper towns on the whole chose to reestablish old ties with the Spanish in Florida, while the lower towns seem to have renewed their old relationships. . .” (Ramsey, 125). These differences between Native Americans separated them. Another reason the coalition was ineffective is that the Native Americans were disorganized when they came together.
