    Portrayed as Evil Was HeIn the book "In Cold Blood", we meet Perry Edward Smith, one of the men accused of murdering the Clutter family. Perry is a unique man in the way he sees the world and the way the world sees him. Although the townspeople and those who had heard of the murder only considered Parry a murder. There is, however, one man who sees Perry more than he appears to be and that man was Truman Capote. Perry has had an interesting life from how he was raised, becoming friends with Richard Eugene Hickock, to the murder of the Clutter family, to Capote writing about him and the journey he and Dick must face. It was Capote who came up with the idea that Perry was not a bad person per se, but rather that he had made a mistake that caused him to spend the rest of his life behind prison bars. Perry was born October 27, 1928 to two rodeo parents. artists who would later separate while he was still a child. Perry would be raised by his mother who would struggle with an alcohol addiction throughout his childhood. Before Perry could reach adulthood, his mother would die, leaving him in the hands of a Catholic orphanage. Where Perry was constantly abused both physically and emotionally for wetting the bed, this would become an ongoing problem. As a teenager, Perry went to live with his itinerant father. During these years, two of Perry's siblings would eventually commit suicide while his only living brother would cut off all contact with Perry. During World War II, Perry would serve in the American Merchant Marine, while serving he would visit other continents such as Asia. Perry has many skills that he will use later in life. Not only had Perry served his country in World War II, but he was also a decorated veteran of the Korean War. Perry had... middle of paper ...... anger issues and lost his way.
