These five emotions live and function inside the control center. They monitor Riley's daily experiences and guide her along her journey. Joy plays the main and most important emotion in Riley's mind, she tries to keep Riley's emotion positive. Besides the emotional characters, Core Memory plays an important role in this film. This comes from a very important time in Riley's life and fuels many aspects of Riley's personality. Each core memory will power each personality island and will be stored in a different island once Riley has finished his day and goes to sleep. For example, Family Island and Honesty Island. Sadness inadvertently causes Riley to cry in front of her class, resulting in a sad Core Memory. Joy tries to get rid of the sad Core Memory. However, joy and sadness hit and accidentally knock out other main memories. This results in Personality Island being deactivated. Joy, sadness and five essential memories are sucked out of the seat and sent into long-term memory. Previous films produced by Pixar like Toy Story and Up focus on family, friendship and trust. Inside Out explores people's emotion through an 11-year-old girl and characters represent her emotion. Similar to Toy Story, Inside Out is about secret imaginary characters who are children's invisible guardian angels. The characters in Inside Out attempt to keep Riley's emotion positive through an adventure. This film generates audience imagination towards the psychological activities behind each emotion. Besides anthropomorphism, this film also depicts the human brain as an amusement park and a factory. For example, Dream Production is a place where dreams look like movies. Memory Dump as a place for abandoned Imagination Land material and faded memory. The subconscious's worst fears about Riley. These metaphors help generate ideas about the different types of memory in the human brain. Looking at the design of this film, the Inside Out production team created and designed elements based on a biological perspective. For example, they used the hypothalamus as the main shape of a headquarters piece. In addition, the design of the guardrails is inspired by DNA. Besides settings, there are character design implications. The use of colors corresponds to the characteristics of each emotion. Joy is the character representing happiness, she is surrounded by lights which represent the stars and the sun. Yellow is its base color which symbolizes dynamic, energetic and positive image. Blue is used for sadness. It represents the depressive and the passive. But then, that also represents reason. Red represents the stimulus, i.e. anger. Green is a representation of the odiousness that is.
