It is divided into two parts, the top line (blessed) and the bottom line (be a blessing). “The LORD said to Abram, “Leave your country, your family, and your father’s house, to the land that I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, that you may be a blessing. Those who bless you I will bless, and whoever dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3). Notice that after “make your name great,” the blessing moves from that which goes to Abram to that which flows through him to the world. This is how God chose to reach the world, with men and women who would obey Him. Given the area he came from, Abram was most likely an idol worshiper and yet God still called him. This shows that God wants someone to obey Him, not someone who already had all the qualifications to follow Him..
