  • Essay / Environmental Pollution Essay - 1366

Light pollution is more common in large cities, although it can also have an impact in suburban areas, around airports or large sporting facilities, and the along highways where billboards and bright streetlights are common. For humans, light pollution is more of an irritation than an environmental problem, perhaps making it difficult to see the stars or interfering with sleep. For animals, however, light pollution can be more intrusive, disrupting biological clocks, influencing natural predation patterns, and overall threatening animal habitats located near brightly lit signs of human civilization. Noise pollution can also create significant disturbances in animal habitats. It is often linked to light pollution because it comes from similar sources, including highways, airports, and noisy sporting events or concerts, as well as construction projects, railroads, and more. For humans, noise pollution is probably a bit more of a concern than light pollution, leading to lower standards of living thanks to noise's ability to prevent sleep, distract from work, and cause hearing loss. For animals, noise and light pollution combine to constitute factors with limited possibilities.
