  • Essay / Failure and Success Essay - 1110

However, after the first time my mother helped me understand the relationship between failure and success, I did not allow any further loss of reach my heart and mind in a negative way. I was in third grade and my best friend, Jessica, was going to try out for the local soccer team. We were both best friends because we did everything together and really enjoyed spending time together. I was the least athletic and least social person then and didn't really want to try football. Jessica found out that practice would be held every day for an hour and games would be on Saturdays for everyone on the team. There were two seasons, fall and spring and Jessica was going to try both since her parents wanted her to. Jessica was happy too, but also upset like me because Jessica playing soccer meant less time for us together. So I asked my parents and decided to try soccer as well for Jessica's sake. Unfortunately, I wasn't very good, so I didn't make the team during the fall tryouts because I didn't have enough skills. I was very upset and started calling myself a “failure.” I was ashamed to tell Jessica that I hadn't made the team, so I purposely didn't tell Jessica.
