When reading Poe's stories, it is almost frightening and disturbing to read that a cat's eye is stabbed out or that the cat is hanging from a tree, it is so sick. Or hitting your wife in the head with an ax is horrible. It's like watching an episode of Snapped or a show on the Investigation Discovery channel. But I think that's what makes Poe such an incredible artist, all of his work is detailed, giving us readers a real experience of what the characters are feeling. In The Black Cat, the narrator says: "I took a penknife out of my waistcoat pocket, I opened it, I grabbed the poor creature by the throat and I deliberately tore out one of its eyes. orbit! » (7) This quote is so scary that it leaves a vibrant image of it in my brain. But what I love most about Poe's The Black Cat is the ending where the cat sabotages the narrator's plans to keep the body hidden behind the wall, it's so awesome. Cask of Amontillado I love how cold and manipulative Montresor is when he plans revenge on Fortunato and he leads him thinking he is going to the Amontillado but ultimately leads him to his death. Montresor's character is so awesome when he tells Fortunato that he found a rare thing. wine he has to try, using something someone likes and using it against them is so clever. I think Poe is one of the greatest writers in history, all his stories keep you guessing and wanting.
