Identity politics are political arguments that focus on the self-interest and perspectives of self-recognized social interest groups and the methods by which people's politics can be shaped according to of their aspects of their own identity through social organizations. . (Cressida, nd) Identity politics is a phenomenon that first began at the radical frontiers of liberal democratic societies in which people's rights are recognized. Likewise, the phrase “identity politics” is not generally used to allude to developments within single gatherings or tyrannical states that are radical. (Kauffman, 1990)The practice of identity politics has been around for a long time, but the term and related movements began in earnest in the late 20th century. There are various developments in which identity politics is discovered, examples are class, gay and lesbian, feminist, disabled and ethnic movements and these movements are retroactively linked to identity politics. Not only is identity politics limited to the major racial or gender divisions of our time, but it also encompasses sexual orientation, ethnicity, citizenship status, and other instances in which a specified group feels oppressed or downgraded or feels like a minority. . (What is Identity Politics?, nd) Identity politics is, of course, self-involved, but it is not necessary that all members of a given group be involved in it. Since it’s about yourself, it’s about coming together and showing up and that matters to everyone. Additionally, since it is a self-serving approach, that means it represents the energy and motivation it can infuse into democratic politics. Some people think the LGBT community is alienating. This is because the term itself implies alienation from heterosexual individuals. The LGBT community is said to view heterosexual individuals as a divided group. (Prosser, 1998) Many social movements concerning the LGBT community have been created. LGBT social development is a political philosophy and at the same time a social development. This pushes for the full recognition of LGBT individuals in society. In these movements, LGBT people and their allies, who are not necessarily gay, have long campaigned and fought for what are now called LGBT rights.
