  • Essay / Career in Psychology: Personal Story - 929

All my life, I have always been looking for a career that would fit my personality, that would correspond to who I really am, and that would constantly have the ability to help. people through the difficult issues they face. Throughout my life, I have been seen as the type of person people felt comfortable talking to about their problems. Maybe people feel this way because they feel I have a listening ear? Well, all I can say is that human behavior has always seemed interesting to me and that's probably why I made the decision to pursue a career in psychology. I believe that choosing this career is very similar to how the Freedom Writers chose to overcome stereotypes. in the book The Freedom Writers Diary. I can compare my journey to becoming a licensed marriage and sexuality psychologist to how the Freedom Writers had to overcome the stereotypes of others in Ms. Gruwell's class. Ms. Gruwell's class was known as the "reject class" or "ghetto class." For example, in dairy entrance number two, a student talks about the stereotypes that exist at school and that even the students can visibly see: I'm stuck in a classroom full of troubled kids who come in buses from bad neighborhoods. I feel really uncomfortable here with all these rejections. I ate lunch before class in the high school quad and noticed that, like everywhere else, it was really segregated by race. (TFWD 8) Many writers on freedom have felt feelings that I have felt myself, especially when it came to feeling embarrassed to talk about something I really wanted, for fear that someone no one judges me. I know I want to become a licensed marriage and sexuality psychologist, but I know some people would feel disgusted by my career choice. So the newspaper sixty...... middle of paper ...... attempts to help save future marriages and keep families happy. I also love having the ability to not only hear someone's problems, but also listen and help them find the solution best suited to their needs. It makes me feel like I'm doing good in the world, I feel like I'm making peace in life at home, and that can equate to less family neglect, more family values, and all around, a better stress-free environment within the home. Many people would think that the career choice I have chosen is nothing more than a nightmare, but for me, it is just a simple dream.
