  • Essay / Fight Club: A Controversial Classic - 906

The film Fight Club sparked controversy upon its release. Critics have both acclaimed and denounced this film. At the same time, he became a fan favorite, ranking 14th in IMDB's Top 250. On the one hand, the movie Fight Club lacks originality and an unrealistic plot. On the other hand, he displays exceptional acting. Ultimately, Fight Club fails to deliver on its promises, leaving audiences disappointed. The story revolves around an ordinary middle-class man, living in a daily routine. However, this young man has a particular characteristic: he is insomniac. The protagonist insists: “When you suffer from insomnia, you never really sleep…and you’re never really awake. » He begs his doctor to give him medicine that would allow him to sleep, but the doctor does not give in. Instead, his doctor suggests the narrator attend support groups. The narrator follows his advice, but becomes too addicted to these support groups. This becomes his daily ritual because it allows the protagonist to cry, which gives him the pleasure of sleep. Shortly after, he became aware of another “faker” in the presence of the support groups, Marla Singer. The narrator hates this woman. He feels that it ruins the raw experience and sincerity of the other members. He describes it as “Marla…the little scratch on the roof of your mouth that would heal if only you could stop sticking your tongue out at it, but you can’t. » He even goes on to say: “If I had a tumor, I would call it Marla. » As a compromise, he and Marla agree to a meeting schedule that would prevent them from seeing each other. The narrator's job requires him to travel to different cities. On one particular flight home, he meets an eccentric man named Tyler Durden, in the middle of a paper....... His alter ego, played by Brad Pitt, is no less effective. Pitt's portrayal of Tyler Durden's character is convincing and believable. He successfully conveys the dangerously violent but harmless man throughout the film. Despite its disappointing performance, Fight Club remains a classic film due to its overall theme. He insists that a meaningless life will lead to destruction, but perhaps not as extreme as starting a fight club. No matter how hard the protagonist tries to adapt to society according to its rules, he remains miserable and incomplete. He says, “It’s your life and it’s ending minute by minute.” » And: “Only after having lost everything are we free to do anything. » The purpose of this film is to free the audience from societal roles and insecurities so that one can truly live, an eternal and universal truth.Works CitedFight Club
