Unemployment, such a simple word, but a terrifying thought for those affected by it. How to react to such a situation when your skills are no longer needed? Is there any hope for them to re-enter the job market? There is a solution. The government provides vocational training for the unemployed. Vocational training for the unemployed is supposed to be organized in such a way as to anticipate future employment. They attempt to predict which sectors they think will expand in the future and attempt to train the unemployed in those areas. This way, they can enter a growing market and have the skills needed to succeed and advance in their careers. But how effective are these training programs? What can they offer people trying to re-enter the workforce? We will first look at what these job training programs are and what they do, then analyze the success they have had in the United States during the recent recession, and finally provide an overview of how these programs should be managed. Vocational training first appeared in the 1930s by Herbert Hoover during the depression in an attempt to create jobs and reduce the unemployment rate. Since then, many different provisions have been made regarding the implications of vocational training for the unemployed. From Nixon proposing new programs to Ronald Regan trying to get rid of them altogether, and now Obama using the Workforce Investment Act, they are all trying to do what is best for our country. As we all know, the United States went through arguably the greatest recession of all time, after the Great Depression. Obama attempted to revamp our economy by pouring money into the Workforce Investment Act to try to revive our economy.
