The attempt almost succeeded. During World War II, Nazi Germany killed nearly six million Jews. » -Helmut Walser Smith. The Holocaust was an extraordinarily pure act of evil committed by someone known as a military dictator. The Holocaust had an extreme impact on the world. There is much more to the holocaust than people expect, there were many more factors that contributed to the Jewish population today because of it. Who started the holocaust? The main person considered to be the innovator of the Holocaust was a man named Adolf Hitler. He was born in Austria on April 20, 1889. He believed that his racial status was superior to that of others. He strongly believed in the Aryan race. The Aryan race was in his eyes considered the master race. He believed that if he was able to destroy the Jews and other races, his race could rise to the highest rank. Why did the holocaust start? Adolf Hitler became the leader of the Nazi Party. The Nazis despised races other than their own, considered the Aryan race. They believed that the Jews were the cause of the loss of the Great War and that they were evil and terrible people. Adolf Hitler also wrote in his book Mein Kampf that a war would result in "the extermination of the Jewish race in Germany." The Nazis were willing to eradicate all Jewish populations because of a racist decision they made thinking they were better than any other race on the planet. Which group did the Holocaust affect? The Holocaust affected different racial societies, notably the Jewish population. The largest population affected was the Jewish people, but it also affected different groups such as Ukrainians, Roma (Gypsies), homosexuals, Soviet prisoners of war, Slavs, and people with mental and physical deformities. The Holocaust led to a considerable decrease in the Jewish population. After the Holocaust, the remaining Jews formed the new country of Israel. What were the “euthanized” murders of the protest? Euthanasia refers to the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful illness or in an irreversible coma. They killed anyone with physical deformities, such as those with Down syndrome and other illnesses. To the Germans, these people were considered wasted lives, idiots and mentally paralyzed. They believed that these people represented a waste of space in our daily lives. During World War I, faced with a shortage of food and other resources in the country, they decided to start massacring these people. They thought it would be a way to save more resources. Hitler started euthanizing killings during the war because he thought it would be much easier than just killing them when nothing was happening.was happening. Very quickly, these killed people were considered part of the Holocaust. What was Kristallnacht? Kristallnacht was a German word meaning “night of broken glass.” During the days of November 9 and 10, Nazi soldiers attacked Jewish stores, homes and workplaces. They destroyed the buildings inside and out. For example, they broke the windows of buildings, which gave these nights the name Kristallnacht. Not only did they vandalize Jewish places, but they also burned synagogues and approximately 100 Jews were killed over those two nights combined. What were the concentration camps? Concentration camps were camps in which the Nazis starved Jews to death and forced them to work constantly. The Jews were crowded on top of each other in house-like places in which they stayed. Every day they worked or starved, some were burned alive and others were left to die from gas poisoning in gas chambers. The largest concentration camp of the Holocaust was called Auschwitz. It spans 472 acres and you can visit it today in Poland. Millions of Jews were killed in these camps, and very few survived. After the concentration camps were liberated, some American soldiers who found the camps felt grief, anger, and general depression over the vile crime they had witnessed. Survivors were sent to homes for help in times of illness, starvation, and to bathe. Survivors were forever haunted by the memory of the sight and sound of roaring flames, screams and moans of pain. They will never forget the eternal smell of the burning flesh of family, friends and acquaintances. They will never be able to ignore the sight of the bloodied and shriveled bodies of starving people lying silently around them. Who was Oskar Schindler? Oscar Schindler was born in Germany on April 28, 1908. He was an industrialist and worked several jobs, either on the family farm or in other fields. He became a Nazi and was chosen to work in the concentration camps, which I imagine was a terrible job. But he didn't work in any ordinary camp, he worked in the biggest camp, Auschwitz. It was probably horrible work, watching innocent people drop dead all around you and their screams filling your ears. Even though he worked in the camps, that didn't mean he was a horrible person. He was not like the other Nazis. During his time there, he saved more than 1,000 Jews from deportation. He did his best to save them because he thought what they were doing was an incredibly atrocious job. Oskar Schindler, I'm sure, was considered a hero to many of those who were saved, I'm sure they were extremely grateful. I know for a fact that I would have been. What were the displaced persons camps? Displaced persons camps meant “displaced persons” camps. Displaced persons camps were a temporary place to stay. The people who were placed in these camps were German prisoners, Nazis and Jewish survivors of concentration camps. The Jewish survivors had to be placed in the same camps and houses as their recent guards from the German Nazi concentration camps. The displaced persons camps were like hospitals and homes for those who could not get the help they needed after the horrible event of the Holocaust. What was the Wannsee Conference? The Wannsee Conference was what the Germans considered the "final solution” to the Jewish problem. It was at this conference that they decided to take the Jewish people and put them in concentration camps. The conference was established on January 20, 1942. It was Heydrich Himmler, second in command of Adolf Hitler's SS, who organized the Wannsee conference. What was the Warsaw Ghetto? The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest of all the ghettos during the Holocaust. A ghetto was a part of the city, especially a slum, occupied by one or more minority groups. These are the places where they stored the Jews until they were taken to concentration camps. However, on April 19, a large and violent uprising took place which did not end until May 16. It lasted almost a month. What was the Lodz ghetto? The Lodz Ghetto was the second largest ghetto after the Warsaw Ghetto, and it was one of the first to be built. It lasted from its construction until its closure in August 1944. It was one of the strictest ghettos in existence, the rules were enforced more than any other ghettos that existed at that time. There were approximately 3,500 to 4,000 Jews detained in this ghetto alone. The ghetto official was extremely strict about Nazi policies and rules. What was the Jager report? The Jager Report was a list of the majority of the vast murders of the Jewish people between July 2, 1941 and November 25, 1941. It was written on December 1, 1941. The Jager Report tracked the murders of Jews on a daily basis. The Jager report was written by the Einsatzkommando, a group of Einsatzgruppe A exterminators considered death squads. Who was Olga Lengyel? Olga Lengyel was born on October 19, 1908. She was taken to the Auschwitz concentration camp with her family because she was Jewish. Before she was saved, her entire middle family had been killed. She was later rescued and became the only survivor of her intermediary family. She later wrote a book called “Five Chimneys” explaining everything she had experienced in the concentration camp. I'm sure she explained what a horrible experience it was to go through. Today, there are still survivors of this horrific event. Some people are so afraid that they never talk about it. Others have written books, documentaries, etc. to show the world today what it means to survive an extreme genocidal act. They all remember how excruciating it was to live through. How horrible it was to see the people around you die. How painful it was to work until they were sure they would never survive the night. It was a horrible experience that people still remember today, especially in the Jewish society that became Israel. It was their journey. Their story. What was Magda Trocmé? The Magda Trocme was a movement inspired by a woman who let in a struggling Holocaust refugee. After that, it led people to open their homes to those who had escaped and survived the concentration camps. They fed and sheltered them. They also helped them get back on their feet so they could start living again. One woman's act gave birth to a new organization aimed at protecting refugees from torment. These people were kind enough to allow those they didn't know into their homes simply because they were kind enough to do so. How did the free world learn about concentration camps? The free world learned of the camps when American troops invaded a German city. On the outskirts of the city there was a concentration camp. The troops who found it didn't know what it was and went back to report it to the captain. They.
