Zoos: Who are we really helping?Peoples Trust provided me with an extreme amount of information on why zoos are beneficial through their "Zoos and Conservation Article". Peoples Trust emphasized that not all zoos mistreat their animals, but never took into consideration how the animals themselves may suffer and what is taken from them. The Peoples Trust article “Zoos & Conservation” discussed only zoos located in Great Britain. . What about the rest of the world? Fortunately, there is a group called the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) that inspects zoos and aquariums to ensure they are suitable for conservation. For example, the Giza Zoo in Cairo was closed for killing two gorillas who might have been infected with a disease and for paying extra by putting visitors at risk so they could pet any animal they could. choice. Now, if one of these animals attacked a visitor, it would shoot the animal that is simply doing what its instincts tell it. The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) breeds globally endangered animals and then reintroduces them into the wild. ZSL states that the main reasons for the disappearance of species are: poaching, pollution, climate change and overpopulation of the human race due to the need for homes, shops, hospitals and other amenities. The rainforest that once covered four billion acres of land surface is now reduced to 2.5 billion acres in just a few hundred years. Wetlands have also been destroyed and provide drinking water for wildlife and humans. Perhaps the solution to this problem lies not in locking up endangered animals, but in cracking down on the destruction of their habitats. Maybe there should be places where ownership is restricted ... middle of paper ... the animal itself should be placed before profit at all times.
