Essay / Leviathan Island - 707
We ran out of food and water. I hadn't had a sip of sweet wine or a piece of meat for three days. We had lost all our food supplies and fishing spears in the haste to escape the Lestrygonians. If we stayed at sea one more day we would all starve, but luckily the gods crashed our ship against a rock near an island. We couldn't see the damage in the light of the moon. After tirelessly looking at the hull, my men saw a faint light in the distance. It seemed to come from the rugged mountains of an island, but the light seemed to shine. The light was spheroid like the moon but duller. I wanted to go see what it was, but my men were too scared. They would rather starve than board a small boat at night. I closed my eyes and prayed to Helios, the sun god, to come out in his chariot of fire. When I opened my eyes, I saw Helios rising from the mountains and Selene descending into the ocean. I rushed to my men and told them to prepare the boats, but saw that they had already done so. We launched the boat as quickly as possible to go to the island and look for food, I took some of my men with me and ordered the other to repair the ship but if we had known what monster lived there, we would never know. not knowing where to go, we started walking towards the light we saw from our ship. After walking for what seemed like hours, we saw a small mud house. My men decided to loot the house. When we entered, we didn't see anyone. As my men looked through the chests, we heard a loud roar. We all stopped moving. One of my men shouted “Leviathan”. He was holding a painting of Leviathan and a map of the island. We quickly realized we were on Leviathan Island... in the middle of a paper... walking towards where I had thrown it. I quietly sneaked up behind them and kicked their legs. They fell to the ground and I turned my head until it broke. I then brought them both back to shore and tied them to my raft with my clothes. I placed the raft in the water with the deer on it and started heading towards the ship. All the way back to the ship we prayed to the god hoping my men were still alive. When I approached the ship, I placed the deer on my shoulder and climbed onto the ship. When I was on the bridge, I didn't see anyone. I almost started crying. A few hours later, when I went to the cargo section to store the extra deer meat, I saw my men trying to repair the hole. I told my men what happened on the island and all they wanted to do was get away from here, but I was determined to come back one day and get revenge...
