AnthonyFebruary 1820 – March 1906Biography and Early LifeBorn in Adams, Massachusetts, February 15, 1820Raised in a Quaker family with long activist traditions, developed a feeling of justice very early in life. After teaching for 15 years, she became active in the temperance field. However, because she was a woman, she was not allowed to speak at the rallies. Shortly after meeting Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she became very active in the women's rights movement in 1852 and dedicated her life to women's suffrage. Despite the law, she began traveling and lecturing across the country for women's suffrage. She also campaigned for the abolition of slavery, the right of women to own their own property and keep their earnings, and she advocated for women's labor organizations. Susan remained active and dedicated to women's suffrage until 'upon his death on March 13, 1906.AbolitionistAfter moving to Rochester, New York, in 1845, the Anthony family became very active in the anti-slavery movement. Susan B. Anthony became an agent of the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1856. In 1863, Anthony and Stanton organized a National Loyal Women's League to support and petition for the Thirteenth Amendment banning slavery. They then campaigned for full citizenship for women and people of all races, including the right to vote, under the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments.
