Essay / Brave New World: A Book About Our Future - 1139
Our world today is made up of a population of people who all want to integrate into society. With the constant evolution of new technologies, people are moving further and further away. With the constant evolution of new ways of introducing technology into our world, people have found ways to use it for both good and evil purposes. We are currently on the verge of a world where communication between us is of poor quality. Ironically, the technology presented to bring us together separates us. An example of this would be social media. Our world is getting better at using social media, but getting worse at socializing in real life. Reliance on technology makes people lonelier overall, even if they seem socially connected. (Frankel 31)Social media is not the only way technology will impact our future. The demand for technology has driven tremendous improvements over the years. Although Huxley described some aspects of genetic engineering in his book as being imposed on society by the government, I believe that government involvement should not be necessary at all. As technological advances also lead to improvements in the capabilities of genetic engineering, scientists have found ways to make these capabilities attractive to the average person. The desire to use available resources to improve our appearance and features has become extremely evident. Sometimes people seem to overlook the impact of the decisions they can make not only on themselves, but also on the rest of the world (Huxley) (Frankel). Brave New World describes the use of technology as a way to engineer humans by the government. In Huxley's novel, the government uses its power...... middle of paper ...... because it has not contained the mutation. The result was a healthy baby whose umbilical cord cells were used to treat his older sister. This is another great example of the positive results of the latest technologies that allow us to do more to help sick people (Frankel). Threats and assets must be carefully evaluated by members of a society to ensure freedom within us. We must understand that although new technologies will lead to many new things in our world, their uncontrolled use will cause many problems that may be irreversible for us and for the future of humanity.
