Essay / Negative Effects of Technology - 1259
“Technology is a strange thing. With one hand he brings you great gifts and with the other he stabs you in the back. Charles Percy Snow (Technology Quotes). Technology is undoubtedly useful, but it poses major problems for today's generation of children and adolescents. Being addicted to a Play Station, constantly texting, posting on Facebook; This is exactly what most children and adolescents do for many hours a day, every day of their isolated lives. These addictions are ridiculously unhealthy. Why is it acceptable for this generation of people to be both connected and unconnected? When it comes to the latest drama on Twitter, everyone is tuned in. However, when it comes to spending time as a family and talking to each other at the dinner table instead of texting or IMing, it's an unrelated waste! Modern technology is definitely not the best thing that exists in today's world. No one knows how to connect without him anymore and it's scary, terribly scary. Video games have been proven to cause problems in children's brains. Gaming systems such as Play Stations, X Boxes, Game Cubes and Nintendo cause children to completely unravel what was once important to them; family time. In the documentary Digital Nation, a little Korean boy was one of the examples used. He was incredibly addicted to his computer and video games. His mother admitted that his condition was gradually getting worse. He sits behind the controller of his animated worlds for several hours each day, stopping only to eat, and even then, it's only momentary. He gets up long enough to sit at the table and eat, then he gets up and goes straight back into his isolated fantasy world. He doesn't even recognize that his father... middle of paper... of the world; don’t rely so much on technology! Works CitedDigital Nation. Real. Rachel Pretzin. PBS, 2010.
