  • Essay / Review of Divergent: A Neil Burger Film - 1152

Wow! This was one of the most exciting thrill rides I have experienced in a long time. This movie was really good! In the movie, it was set where the world was divided into factions. The factions were Friendship, Self-sacrifice, Boldness, Erudite, and Candor. The main character was Beatrice, “Tris”; his family belonged to the Friendship faction. This group of people was very kind and peaceful. Beatrice and her brother Caleb were at the age where they had to choose their own faction after knowing who they were and live in that society or stay. Tris along with Caleb and all the other sixteen year olds had to take a test to find. to find out which faction they would belong to. With this test they had to take a clear liquid and with this liquid it would show all their thoughts on the computer. They had different challenges to complete, and based on the results, a faction was chosen for them. When it came time for Tris to take hers, the person giving her the test was alarmed and immediately asked her to leave and tell him she was sick after taking it. Her test was inconclusive, meaning she was Divergent. She could not be controlled by the thoughts or fears transmitted to her in any situation. When the time came for her to choose her faction, she chose boldness. This group seemed reckless, crazy, full of life so to speak. His brother chose the scholars and they were very intelligent. When Tris joined the group, she had to learn to be strong and courageous. She was the first to take the step of a tall building, whether she was afraid or not. After that, she had to jump trains, she had to learn how to shoot a gun and use a knife. She even had to fight people in the middle of paper...... I like everything to be peaceful. Based on our psychology book, this film takes a trait perspective, where personality aspect is inferred from behavior and assumed to give rise to consistent behavior. I think our society is already divided into factions because we have the poor, the middle. class and the rich. This is based on your social status. Most of the time, traits are involved, such as being unstable for the poor, or introverted and extroverted for the middle class and rich. Even though we all have character traits, they are very categorized so that no matter what we do or say, it always depends on the social status in which we find ourselves.
