Final English PaperHave you ever been the victim of a crime? In today's society, we face crime all around us. There are crimes committed out of rage, revenge, jealousy, love, greed, etc. but there is another type of crime, or one might say act of violence, called a hate crime. Have you ever thought that perhaps a crime was committed simply because of your racial background or religious beliefs? Throughout the history of this country, hate crimes have been committed, either by known hate groups or, more often, by individuals inspired by hate. It was only recently that the citizens of this country wanted to pass a law that would punish the perpetrators even more because the crime was committed out of hate. There are two sides to every problem. Whether or not the issue is valid or whether it is an unrealistic concept created by the media or the federal government, then, in my opinion, passing a law of this type is completely unrealistic. It is almost impossible to prove that a crime is committed out of hate. I think a law that punishes hate crimes should not be passed. One of the main questions that would arise is: “Prove it?” » Simply saying this in some cases destroys the effectiveness of the law, especially if and when the crime is committed when both parties share the same sexual, ethnic or religious background. Now, I think the lawyers and the media would love this new law because, on the one hand, the prosecuting attorneys would, in many cases, use it against the accused, especially if it was of an affair between whites and blacks, or vice versa. versa. The media will emphasize racial discrimination simply because the general public, especially minorities, like controversies that can make them sympathetic. Furthermore, I think this law would take up more time in the courts. If you think about it, there would be more cases popping up everywhere and whatever case that brought the word hate together would probably be added as well, prolonging the case even more. Maybe not as much in criminal cases, but more in civil suits. Look how “happy to sue” the public is now. This law would only add to it. For example, people sue their neighbors because their pets go to the bathroom on their lawn. How ridiculous is this? Another example is that of a lady who put her dog in the microwave in the middle of a sheet of paper......t "hate rape" or "hate murder". You should be punished for the crime itself, not for the feelings that accompany it. Even if this law were passed, would the police and courts enforce it? If they didn't, what would be the point of adopting it to begin with. I guess you could say that about any law, but in my eyes, I could see our “system” distorting everything. They would probably convict innocent people of “hate crimes” and let those guilty of “hate” go free. I don't think it's fair to add another category to the list of crimes that could, in the long term, ruin some people's lives. I just think it's wrong. I hope you see my point of view and agree with my opinion.BibliographyJacobs, James. Hate crimes.
