Essay / Review of the book "The Watchmaker Doctor"
How many times has this topic of discussion come up in your conversations? Too often for me. Serious reflection would transport your thoughts to memories of regrets and bad decisions. We would rarely prefer to think about the happiest moments and relive them. That said, you wouldn't want to dwell too much on these thoughts, because the only option available to us in this brief life is to live with these memories, make the most of the present time and anticipate a set of enriching future experiences. no to plagiarism. She lives with constant regret that she did not seek preventative treatment during her teenage years, which led her to drop out of school and lose precious years before earning her medical degree. Currently, she visits her patients at St. Jude'; and one morning, while visiting her long-time patient, Greg, a watchmaker, she is generously given a wristwatch, just before she has a car accident and dies. But there you go! The magic watch instantly goes back in time and transports her to the precise moment of her meeting with Greg. Now she must make a quick decision: whether she would rather die tragically at the appointed time, or go back to her teenage years and carefully undo the events responsible for her current regrets. This is naturally not a complex decision in everyone's eyes. It is rare that we intentionally adopt the first solution. As expected, she chose to go back in time eighteen years; but as she relives her past, will she be able to escape her previous mistakes? Will she be able to kindly help her struggling family and beloved friends in their time of need, given that she is already familiar with past events? Will she prudently avoid the company of unwanted acquaintances who harm her mental and physical health? Will she deliberately choose a different path for her career? How will she cope with her illness this time? This captivating story can be classified in the “New Adult” genre. It focuses heavily on bipolar disorder and its possible symptoms. It was refreshing to read the author's particular perspective on the general attitude towards mental health and the catastrophic consequences of not seeking the necessary help at the right time. Notable passages scientifically describing bipolar I, II, and depression were informative; and the importance of being properly assessed during the hypomanic period was illuminating.
