Essay / The role of the gods in Homer's Odyssey - 870
The presence of God in our belief system is something that many cultures take for granted. In the Odyssey, this presence of God or Goddess is even tangible because in this epic, mortals have the ability to speak to them, see them and feel their presence around them. Since the beginning of the epic, Odysseus has always been helped by Athena (goddess) who is the daughter of Zeus and by Zeus who admired the man's faith, courage, strategy and intellect. In ancient Greece, the power of the Gods was constantly praised and known. like the Love of God. In Homer's Epic, what really caught my attention was how God, in his greatest love, and Odysseus was always with him throughout his journey. Odysseus also knew that he would not be alive if he did not praise the names of the gods, especially that of the goddess Athena. In Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey, the gods play a very important role in the plot of the story. They are the ones who decide whether someone can survive or not based on the sacrifice they made for them. In book 1, Athena said to her father Zeus: “Did not Odysseus please you with sacrifices alongside the Greek ships at Troy? (Homer 65, volume 1). In this part, Athena was trying to plead with her father Zeus on behalf of Odysseus because she wanted to help him return home, while others were trying to bring about his death. This love that Athena has for Odysseus and his family is revealed throughout Homer's epic. Although Athena supported Odysseus throughout his journey, other gods, including Poseidon, Calypso, and Circe, made it difficult for Odysseus to return home. In our real life, some people will make your life difficult, but you have the good faith as Odysseus, you should always find your way out. Our God is omnipresent...... middle of paper ...... those Phaeacians who helped Odysseus return home. And for Calypso, she tried to offer Ulysses immortal life and promises to be his eternal wife, but Ulysses' love for his wife Penelope pushes him to fight for her return. To sum up Athena's love as an angel towards Odysseus and his family, she managed everything. in his power to bring him home. She helps him defeat all the suitors who destroyed his house. In a way, it was Athena who devoted her entire life to Odysseus and his family. Athena is the goddess that everyone wants to have as the guardian of their life. She opposed her uncle Poseidon to fight for his Odysseus. At one point, we can even think that Athena is also in love with Odysseus because she never made him depressed. But the real truth is that Athena is an incredible goddess who protects Odysseus no matter what because that's the love she has for him.
