  • Essay / Why society has become too dependent on computers - 1221

The dawn of the computer age allowed society to live a life with great demands; and the very strong desire to respond to these demands are well known. As people tended to seek convenience and ease of life, the emergence of these computers provides a very practical solution. The speed, reliability and ease of access of these three-dimensional machines and gadgets have made life as easy as possible. Used in commerce, at home, in government processes and even in schools and reaching virtually every home, these computers can generally be a part of every human life which, without them, humanity seems incapable of existing. These higher demands related to the use of computers then lead us to a dependence on these machines. There has never been a day when an individual in a typical urban life does not check their email or simply doodle on laptops and other related computing and analytics gadgets. The convenience, entertainment and ease of use of computers make it difficult for a person to live without them. There are many causes that could lead to a computer-dependent society, mainly caused by relative social and psychological factors, which are supported by the person's behavior. There are quite a few terms associated with computer addiction. Critical allegations of such an event would characterize it as "computer addiction, compulsion and obsession." While these three terms would mean that certain actions are performed out of habituation and distress, which could also often be associated with drug use, Shotton relatively used the term "syndrome" in his study which would determine the causes of the higher tendencies of the syndrome . society is dependent on computers. Shotton discusses that social and psychological influences may be the cause...... middle of article......Shotton, Margaret A. Computer Addiction? A study of computer addiction.
