Essay / The Mysterious Stranger - 1992
The Mysterious Stranger It was 1590 in Austria, still in the age of belief, and still in the Middle Ages. The peaceful town of Eseldorf lay in the middle of Austria, secretly hidden by lush woods. and many hills. Children were taught only to revere God and the saints; as for education, it was thought that it only distracted from Him, making them unhappy with their lot in life. In the city there were two priests. One of them, Father Adolf, was impressed and respected; for he was not afraid of Satan and it is said that he once confronted him by throwing his bottle at him. The other was Father Pierre, he was the one they loved the most. Unfortunately, he had enemies, one of them being the very powerful astrologer. Who had the ear and confidence of the bishop himself; he wore a flowing robe, he also carried a staff and a book that was said to contain magical powers. Father Peter openly denounced him as a fraud and a charlatan without valuable knowledge of any kind; or any power other than that of a normal human being. It was the astrologer who told this to the bishop, who suspended him for an indefinite period. And as time went by, it became more and more difficult to get bread and the bank owner, Solomon Isaacs, lent him all the money he could. The three boys, Nikolaus, Seppi and Theodor, were always together from the cradle. They knew the hills and woods of this country and the birds. They were also friends with the oldest servant of the castle – Felix Brandt. He told them about all the old times and all the strange things. He showed them how to smoke and drink coffee. When there was a storm, he told them of great horrors. (Largely from his own experience) He encouraged them not to fear supernatural things. But one morning...in the middle of a newspaper......asking, it seemed people believed his story; compared to that of the boys who were ridiculed and harassed until people burst out laughing. Then Satan appeared near Wilhelm, Father Peter's lawyer and Margret's dear friend. It melted inside him, just as the other lawyer said his last statement. Satan then began to question him about when and what time he found the money. He confirmed finding it the previous year and said he could prove otherwise. He simply examined the coin to discover that the date was current and not from a previous year. This turned out to be true and the case was closed. Satan disappeared to announce the news to Father Peter. But in reality, he told her that he was now convicted as a thief and his reputation was ruined. It shocked him so much that in 10 minutes he went completely crazy and thought he was emperor: “Happy as a bird."
