    Discussion: Color symbolism is an inalienable part of human emotional perception of the world (Redgrove 1922, cited in Peretti, 1974). Answering the question about the effect of colors on mood, four participants found the colors of the buildings “cheerful” (interviewees n°1 and 2 at the Toffee Factory, n°6 and 7 at the International Center for Life) . This is mainly because bright colors are usually associated with a positive and happy mood. However, one participant (interviewee #4), interviewed at Dance City Newcastle, mentioned that the colors used in the design of the building are calming, as the architects used light pastel shades of blue, green and purple. Two other respondents (interviewees #3 and 5) responded that the colors do not affect their mood mainly because they had become accustomed to seeing these buildings every day. Nevertheless, Meerwein et. al. (2007: 63) state that “the possibility and intensity” of the influence of colors on mood in an architectural environment “depends on the people and their personal mood”.
