Employees are now more vocal and more insistent on what they believe to be their rights as employees. Call for Papers, an article by Stella M. Nkomo, Myrtle P. Bell, Aparna Joshi, Laura Morgan Roberts and Sherry Thatcher on Academy of Management, states that "diversity and cultural differences cause tensions and difficult challenges that management is supposed to report.β ". The article reduces all problems to difficulty accepting cultural differences, which then leads to harassment and discrimination. To support this hypothesis, another Academy of Management article, Diversity Downside by Ben Haimowitz (2014), states that teamwork with a group of mixed cultures can cause "the potential for cross-cultural anxiety, tension and conflicts arising from differences in worldview, values ββand norms.β ". These two articles complement each other to highlight the main challenges posed by cultural diversity within a workplace. Management is then expected to counteract these problems and implement new management strategies.
