The problem this essay investigates is WHY people deliberately say things that are not true. This problem concerns the fundamental virtue of honesty. In the book Business Ethnicities, author Jennings (2009) identified various categories of ethical dilemmas, one of which is saying that things you know are not true. This article examines the ethical dilemma of honesty by analyzing Case 2.10, James Frey, Oprah and A Million Little Pieces. The analysis of the case focuses on the qualities of truth and lessons learned in decision-making and conduct. The case, James Frey, Oprah and A Million Little Pieces, is a prime example of how an individual's actions can conflict with the fundamental virtue of honesty. In this case, the results of Smoking Gun's investigations into James Frey's memoir described in the book A Million Little Pieces revealed that the facts were embellished. Oprah's first reaction to the quality of the truth was to believe that Frey's actions were right.
