Your mind is your predicament. He wants to be free from any change. Free from pain, free from the obligations of life and death. But change is a law and no simulation will modify this reality” (Socrates). Death. The means to an end. Game over. As humans, do we have a choice between life and death, or is it all left to a higher power? This is a very controversial question that has no exact answer. Where should we draw the line to decide who has this right, the patients, after all, it is their life, the family, or should it belong to the doctors, those who must participate in the end of life? When searching for the solution, a person must consider their beliefs and the many perspectives of people who could potentially influence their choice. In doing so, the patient's religion, values and traditions come into play. The main reason behind this argument is: what is suicide? “suicide is death caused by self-inflicted, harmful behavior with the intent to die as a result of that behavior” (CDC). Conversely, the option of death should be granted to a patient who is suffering from serious injuries or a situation involving foreseeable death, unless otherwise indicated in their prior wishes. Tim Bowers, just 32 years old, fell from a 16-foot tree he was climbing while deer hunting in the Decatur, Indian woods, paralyzing himself from the shoulders down.
