The man who discovered Alzheimer's disease was Alois Alzheimer; he discovered it after the death of a patient with an abnormal mental illness. Alzheimer's disease, also known as AD, is named after Alois Alzheimer and is an ongoing loss of brain function that affects thinking skills, such as forming or retrieving memories and judgment. I think it took him so long to discover that it was a new disease, because Alzheimer's can be so subtle that only a drastic change in the brain's vision can show progression cells. This disease affects older people, but it is not a normal part of aging. AD has no cure yet, but scientists are trying to find the root of the disease and control its destructive powers. Currently there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, scientists have also tried to increase the time during which the disease can fully take over. Nerve cell connections cannot, however, be made at present ; Sometimes, if the disease is detected in time, it can be slowed down, but this is very rare. However, they are developing treatments that could alleviate the symptoms. Of the approximately 7 billion people in the world, 300 million are Americans, and the Alzheimer's Association states that "more than 5 million Americans today suffer from Alzheimer's disease" (Stone, "Genetics and Alzheimer's"). Alzheimer's disease is the source of destruction. or decline of brain cells or nerve cells. Due to damaged nerve cells, the brain may have fewer connections than healthy brain cells. Amyloid plaques are found on the outside of the cell and are clumps of proteins. Neurofibrillary tangles are also proteins, but they are found inside the cell. It has not been confirmed whether or not these protein clumps have an effect on Alzheimer's disease, but they are... middle of paper...... destructive as she ages. It progressed to the point where she no longer remembered her grandchildren, or even sometimes her children. For example she seemed stuck in time, the only person she really remembered was her husband who died about 14 years ago, every day she waited for this. a man who would never return. I thought it was unusual because she had only had it for 8 years, so I didn't understand how she didn't remember anyone before that. I wanted to be able to understand what was going on in his mind. Alzheimer's disease affects the mind's ability to function and only gets worse over time, to the point where it needs to be attended to every hour. Although there is no cure, scientific interest is fueling the desire to find one. The subject appealed to me because although it seems that Alzheimer's disease does not have much depth, it is actually a very complex problem...
