The Beatles were a rock and roll group that enjoyed huge success in the early 1960s, which came to fruition as "Beatlemania." This essay provides a brief overview of who the Beatles were, their musical genre and influences, as well as a description of their lyrical subject matter. Furthermore, this essay strives to evaluate the various reasons for the Beatles' enormous success in terms of the social, political, and cultural environment, specifically attributing their success to the economic climate of the time. Who were the Beatles? The Beatles were an English rock group founded in 1960, in the city of Liverpool. The group consisted of members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The Beatles are considered by many to be the most influential rock and roll group in history, although they experimented with several genres and achieved massive critical and commercial success in the 1960s. Their first single, which launched their career, was "Love Me Do" in 1962. By April 1964, The Beatles had twelve singles on the Billboard Hot Hundred singles chart, which led to Beatlemania and the "British Invasion" of the United States. .
