  • Essay / War Stories by Christian Werthmuller - 1315

Since the beginning of history, there have always been conflicts and disagreements, which led to battles and clashes. Since these hostilities broke out, the issues that trigger the conflicts and the battle itself have been illustrated in textbooks and posted all over the Internet, but no one really takes the time to think about the many soldiers and people who are risking their lives for our country. security and freedom. To better understand the history and what these veterans did for us, we interviewed Army veteran Christian Werthmuller, who participated in Black Ops, Operation Desert Storm, and the Iraq War. Black ops was an ongoing secret that actually began during World War II. with the Rangers and the UDT. It was then that the OSS began, which became the CIA (Werthmuller). Another name for black ops is Special Operations Forces, another term used to describe elite military teams trained to carry out dangerous, high-risk missions that conventional units cannot accomplish (Werthmuller). These soldiers must be physically and mentally healthy and have the courage and skills to operate individually or in small teams. “Everything they do is considered a covert operation because no one hears about it and probably never will” (Werthmuller). Most of Officer Werthmuller's tour of duty in Honduras was black ops. Officer Werthmuller explained how difficult it was for his and his team's families to not know their whereabouts during these times, but that nothing could be said or disclosed to these families due to the secrecy of the mission or the risk of destroying the mission (Werthmuller).
