  • Essay / Prophecy in the book of Daniel - 2233

    I. INTRODUCTIONThe prophecy of the seventy weeks of Daniel refers to a vision of the end times given to him by God through his servant; the angel Gabriel. This vision came to him while he was praying after realizing that the period of time prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah regarding their seventy-year period of captivity had already passed. This vision came to him as an answer to his prayer because after realizing that time had passed, he began to repent of the sins of his people so that God would have mercy on them and forgive them their sins, and if possible allow -them to return to their land.SynopsisDaniel was brought to Babylon during the reigns of King Jehoiakim when the Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzar besieged Jerusalem and took them captive. They were taken captive along with Mishael, Azariah and Hananiah, all descendants of the royal line. Nebuchadnezzar, then the most powerful king in the world, gave him the name Belteshazar, after he and his three companions were selected to be trained for service in the king's palace. It was in the training school of this king that he and his three companions distinguished themselves by excellent abilities and wisdom in all knowledge. Daniel's fame as a seer and interpreter of dreams increased when he interpreted the dreams of King Nebuchadnezzar as well as the mysterious writing on the wall during the reign of Nebuchadnezzar's son Belshazzar. Daniel's ability to interpret dreams through the power of God moved him up the ranks. and became second only to the king in the Babylonian kingdom, a position that exposed him to many enemies due to his Jewish culture of praying daily middle of paper......due. His visions describe events from the rebuilding of the temple to the time of the ministry of Jesus Christ, until the temple was destroyed again. This vision also contains the unrealized part, specifically the last seven weeks, which speaks of the reign of the antichrist on earth. Works Cited Albertz, Rainer.
